The other tournaments too straightforward and boring for you, oh champion of gamers? Look no farther, I have just what you're looking for.
The Meta Tournament is a collection of tournaments, spanning genres. Good at FPS games? So is most everyone else. Good at RTS games? That takes effort, and I congratulate you, yet it still will not nab you the grand prize for the Meta. What about Fighting games? How are your reaction times, those are important! The point is, you need to be a diversified gamer to win this thing.
--Games--
Here are the official games!
Multiwinia - RTS
Armagetron Advanced - Twitch
Scorched Earth 3D - Artillery
Duke Nukem 3D - FPS
Bootfighter - Fighting So what games does it include? Not telling! I will, however, offer some guidelines I used in deciding which games were to be used.
1. Fun. Why play them if they're not? 2. Free, period. This isn't a tournament for how much money you spend on games (MaXiMuS) 3. Runs on even low end systems. Again, not a money spending competition (Easy)
The list of games in the tournament will be released on February the 19th at 12:00 PM EST on the front page. VIP attendees will receive a thumb drive upon admittance to the event, which will contain, among other things, all of the installers for the games and instructions on how to set them up. Regular attendees can obtain these from the network file share service, which will most likely be a DCC client of some sort.
--Entry--
Like the rest of the tournament, the entry is also a bit quirky. Seeing as there will be far more people at the LAN than can participate, we will have a hard limit of 24 people, but only if there are more than 8 group members in the meta, otherwise the limit is 16. The entrants will be determined in the following manner:
If you are attending with a group, the group leader must select a Metababy (entrant), groups are alloted entrants in the following way:
5-6 attendees: 1 entry 7-9 attendees: 2 entries 10-12 attendees: 4 entries 13+ attendees: 5 entries
There will be a minimum of 8 non group entrants, determined by random drawing. VIP attendees get two entry tickets to the drawing, all regular attendees get one. So, say we get a bunch of non grouped people, and 3 groups (as it stands now), there would be 3 group metababies, and 13 non grouped metababies. Note that group members are excluded from the raffle for an entry.
--Scoring--
As for scoring this crazy thing, like I said, winning one tournament will not win you the grand prize (though there may be smaller prizes awarded within the tournament). The scoring is as follows:
1st place: 10 points 2nd place: 7 points 3rd place: 5 points 4th place: 3 points <4th place: 1 point
That's all the info for now, stay posted and there will most likely be more before the event!
